What's in a picture?

Posted by haldrich

You've heard it said that a picture paints a thousand words.

While those make good song lyrics, did you know that pictures have a dramatic effect on your e-commerce efforts.
In our observations, sites that display pictures for most items will sell 4x as much product online as those who only use descriptions.
That is a HUGE piece of information.

If your site is currently light on pictures, I encourage you to make the effort to collect images and attach them to products.
You'll be glad you did!

The "Killer" Feature

Posted by haldrich

What is the "killer" feature for your site?  Do you know?

If you don't know, I encourage you to take some time to figure it out.

What do I mean by a "killer" feature?  The "killer" feature is that thing that people know they can get (and want to get) when they come to your site.
Often this feature is something that your business does better than everyone else... the "thing" you're known for.
Some examples of the "killer" feature might be a wizard that gives the customer an easy answer to a difficult question... or perhaps for you it is the ability to find product on your site that is impossible to find elsewhere... maybe it is giving a customer ALL the information the could EVER want to know about a product... perhaps it is a search engine that works in a way that is uniquely suited to your product line.
WHEN you discover WHAT the "killer" feature is and you implement it, you WILL see your site become more frequently visited and in turn more profitable.

When you get that feature implemented on your site then you need to TELL YOUR CUSTOMERS.
Make sure they know that your site is the "go to" site for that feature.

3 Steps to better search engine placement

Posted by haldrich

This post could also have been called  - SEO (search engine optimization) for the rest of us...

One question that comes up time and again is 'how do I get my site to show up on Google when people search for xxxxxxxx?' The real answer to this question can get very complex depending on the keywords you're targeting.

One starting recommendation I suggest is that people first focus keywords on a niche in their market.

Consider this example:
If you try to get on the first page of google for the keyword of "drills", you have to compete with over 16 million sites.
If on the other hand you focus the keywords to "hammer drills" you narrow your competition to only 1.4 million sites.
